Travel Insurance pol # 1364****. Through your firm I purchased a policy with Allianz. Every time I ask for a status I get an automatic response in English and (French?) saying it is taking longer because of the virus. Some one please give more details about my claim. When I call I get put on hold that disconnects after 40 minutes. Rupert J Weynand

I never did get a call back, not even from the ombudsman. Eventually I did get through; end result was that I was an extra week before I could get my seconds car on the road.

The person I talked too was polite, but frazzled & admitted that they were way under staffed.

I will be shopping around when my insurance comes due - I can just imagine dealing with these guys in some type of emergency or if I has a claim. Usually, you never know how good your insurance company is until you have a claim, but in this case I found out early.

They never seem to answer the phone. Seven days straight I have been on hold for over an hour. I am trying to make a change to an auto policy. I am glad I am not trying to make a claim. I then called their "Ombudsman" - and got a recording.

Do Not Pay for Insurance for any Loan with Cumis.

I had 2 loans with Servus Credit Union. They both had insurance coverage for disability or death. I ended up off of work with a disability for 10 months and they denied paying for coverage for the larger loan and paid only 110.25 for the smaller loan which was much less than the 3% that they say they will cover. All I get is the run around when I have had to deal with them. So please Do Not get Any Insurance Coverage with CUMIS. They just screw you around. Guaranteed.

Cancelled Policy after 35 Years - No Claims

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
CUMIS home insurance cancelled our policy after our circumstances changed and house was left vacant and being renovated. When our policy was being renewed, I shared information truthfully and disclosed that renovations were being made for house sale preparations. They advised to prepay a year, and renewed the policy. After 6 months, they called to say they were yanking the policy - no discussion! How would you feel if your life circumstances changed, only to learn that CUMIS does not have your back - even after 35 years as a faithful customer? Can you risk your life savings and security to go with a company that won't support you, even when you have a legitimate policy? Be warned of what underhanded tactics this company will take, to pad their profits - and not protect your interests!

Fire Insurance

Do not ever purchase home insurance from Cumis. Currently going through a fire insurance claim as my home partially burnt down. Now dealing with zero communication, disgusting money hungry adjuster and more stress than I need in my life. How many people go through a home fire in their lives and when they do they can't get what they deserve. Our entire lives we worked for our home and now we get it ripped out from under us by having an insurance company that was more than happy to take our money but not willing to help us in the event of a horrible fire. If I could sue them for mental anguish I would. Do yourselves a huge favor and purchase elsewhere. I will go to every social media outlet I can find to warn people of my experience with them. The loss we have experienced is devastating. Pay the extra money for insurance and go elsewhere!!!!!

The Worst Insurance Company! If your bank/credit union offers you this company....find your own. We pay $420/mth for life, disability insurance for years. Now, my husband gets hurt at work, and after 6mths of waiting...sending in every medical file (which is against the privacy act) and giving them everything they asked for, they have denied our claim. Stating that they never should've insured us at all. Cumis will leave you hanging for months and then come up with whatever excuse to deny your claim. Leaving you going broke and possibly the bank foreclosing on your home. Great! Don't waste your time or money. Our bank lender even told us to find a different insurer. Hmmm....that should make you think. Thanks Steinbach Credit Union for watching us go down with the insurer you offer your Members!

House fire night mare adjusters and even worse contractors doing repairs

I had a fire in my house right away the trouble started with the adjusters. they contract out to a company who's objective it to pay you as little as possible and make you so stressed you will give up. their contractors try to cut so many corners to make bigger profits for themselves, leaving you with bad and unfinished repairs. they created so much damage to my home leaving me tens of thousands of dollars in damaged items. I have to sue for this . No one regulates this fire restoration business it is a cash cow for the bad contractors that do this work. beware maybe find a firm that will deal with all aspects of your fire claim from the beginning, insurance adjusters working for the company are only interested in the bonuses they receive by no paying for your repairs and entitlements. the contracted adjuster love to keep your claim running as they run up big bills for adjusting your claim.THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY EVER.

Roof damage from 2013/2014 winter storms with final disposition in my favour from Cumis Insurance

Initially I was assigned a rep from Cumis who decided before any inspection was done on my roof that the probable cause to the damage to my roof shingles was from wear and tear. My home is 10 years old. About half of the homes in my new subdivision have suffered damage to their roofs and are either in need of repair or having repairs done. Houses on both sides of me had their roofs replaced. All homes in my neighbourhood are between 8 to 13 years old. You can not drive down a street here without witnessing a roof replacement job in process. A neighbour whose home is 13 years old had the roof replacement covered by their insurance company and suggested I put in a claim. She said others had done the same and were successful. I started to regret initiating the process due to the treatment I received by the various reps from this company until I had the last one assigned. What a difference to finally have someone who listens and treats you with respect. At the start of this process I was informed I was only to use the roofing companies approved by the insurance company. This turned out to not be true. I checked with the Insurance Bureau of Canada online page which outlines what one can expect in terms of service and coverage. Their reps and 4 came to my door and the two I tried to speak to at the company were for the most part polite although they made it clear it was unlikely I would be covered by my insurance company for damage. The lady initially assigned to us claimed we heard nothing correctly and refused to return phone calls or send any emails directly. She would only return calls when a message was left with her supervisor. Emails were never replied to. The last adjuster she sent was just crazy to say the least. He yelled at me and stomped his feet. His conduct after he left my home drew the attention of my neighbours who thought I had a stalker and suggested I call the police should he ever return. He came prepared with completed paper work for me to sign saying the company acknowledged no responsibility for the damage done to my home. He further said a proper assessment was needed and a determination of coverage would come later. Later was a date he did not want to give but when pressed he said they had 60 days to make up their minds. Well my roof continued to leak so we proceeded to get the work done by our own reputable, bonded companies who worked in this area. In the interim my partner suffered from medical problems requiring many hospital stays and visits. When home had daily visits from nurses or faced frequent visits to clinics and doctors for tests. On one hospital discharge date we had just arrived home and my partner was waiting for his nurse to call but instead the adjuster called who continued to attempt intimidation tactics and he had been advised to not call anymore but only correspond by email. I told my partner not to speak to him because he would again accuse us of not getting the information down correctly. This man immediately sent me an email with a portion of an email highlighted in red sent to him from our Cumis Rep threatening to remove the coverage for our roof unless we could prove the repairs were done and the roof would not suffer further damage. Since we were to wait for their people but chose not to we did not worry as the roof repairs were done and the leaks sealed. What distressed me was the threat. I finally decided to go further up the food chain and went to this reps Manager. When I found out who he was I sent all the correspondence to date which also gave the dates showing how we had tried to deal with this issue but to date was not resolved. We had dealt with the immediate issues but the roofing company said the glue which holds down the shingles had become loose from the wind from the storms lifting the shingles. More would come off and all needed replacing. Finally this wonderful gentleman from Cumis decided maybe we were right and possibly we were covered for the damage done to our roof from these storms. He believed the roofer. Amazing, we now reached a person who could see both sides and not just the companies which is to try and protect their assets. I commend Cumis Insurance for hiring staff who can listen to reason and has the courage to make a decision which may go against the "Party Line". This is why he is a Manager and the other staff we encountered will never be known for anything except for the number of customers they have refused service to. Be diligent as Cumis Insurance does have honorable people working for them. I would recommend this company to others. Do not give up at first refusal. You may indeed not be covered for the damage caused to your home but you should try. If my neighbour had not made the suggestion to try and put in a claim I would not have. I am now glad I did and saw it through. There are decent people working here.

This is one of the worst written articles about an insurance company I have ever read. No person should ever have to go to the manager or make repeated phone calls to reps in order to get proper service.

One good deed does not make up for the amount of work put in to find that deed. I will NEVER insure with them if this is what happens. Why would someone recommend a company where customer service is seen as their second priority? I am insured with a different company, I had a roof claim that sounded similar.

All I had to do is phone them and they sent someone out right away who said "sure" and construction started the following week. I never had to call again, they took care of everything right away, and I am happy to pay a little more for my coverage because I KNOW that they will ALWAYS be there when I need them, without hassle, and taking care of me like I am their VIP client at the front of the line.

That's what a proper insurance company should do. AMA all the way!

After paying several years for mtge insurance thru the Envision Bank, and paying $125.00 per month, I needed to make a claim when I was injured at work. I was told it could take up to 6 months before a review board would be able review the paperwork.

Umm,,,if I can't work, how can I continue to make payments? They continually want paperwork, after paperwork, doctors notes, summaries, forms etc. Never ending.

They bury you in paperwork so you get so frustrated , you walk away. They are not here for the members of credit unions, they are in partnership with the credit union. Enough said.
